EXCLUSIVE from www.WarBrides.co.uk For the first time ever, a searchable database of Canadian and US war brides passenger lists is now available on line!

Many of the original War Bride passenger departure lists are available, but they are unindexed and unfilmed, and they are very time consuming to search.

Debbie Beavis is a specialist in British passenger records who runs www.passengerlists.co.uk. Debbie discovered the war bride collection some years ago in among several thousand other boxes at the British National Archives. They are fragile and some are suffering badly from sixty years of handling. She is slowly transcribing the names and details from these wonderful old documents and providing other researchers with a previously non-existent finding aid.

Meanwhile, she is able to provide printouts of individual entries. (Click to see close up of an excerpt from a Canadian War Bride passenger list for the Queen Mary, July, 1946.). If your War Bride relative sailed from Britain in the years 1946 to 1948, you may be able to obtain a copy of the page showing her name! Most sheets include names of up to 12 other women sailing in the same section as she did; some may have shared a cabin!

Most entries show her previous address and often the address and next of kin at her new home address overseas. They are beginning to fade a little, and most are past their best. But they are the most wonderful and unique memento of her tremendous undertaking! If you know the date and the name of the ship that you need, ordering is simple. If you don't know have all the details, do contact us as we may be able to help!

To contact Debbie Beavis, please go to her website http://www.warbrides.co.uk or write to her by email at marine@beavis.co.uk.
